Welcome! We're glad that you are interested in visiting with us. We know that it can be intimidating to visit a church for the first time and we hope that this information will make you feel more comfortable when you join us.
General Information
Parking: Please park in the large lot located on the south side of the building.
The Building: Our sanctuary is the circluar building and is where we worship. The stone building is where all of the Christian Education classes are held. The narthex is the area between the two spaces. When you enter on the south side, you will be entering through the narthex. There are two doors on the south side (feel free to use either). If you enter through the side door, you will be closer to the sanctuary. If you enter through the main door, you will enter closer to the education building and the sanctuary will be on your left.
Dress: We have no dress code at South Street; you are welcome just as you are!
Worship: Feel free to come into the sanctuary and sit wherever you like. We DO NOT MAKE VISITORS STAND - we prefer to introduce ourselves individually before or after the service. We hope that you will find the people of South Street to be welcoming and inviting!
Church School
Education is extremely important to us at South Street. Since we are a non-creedal church that encourages people to develop their own theology, we encourage people to come to church school and love God with all their mind. There are a variety of classes which can be found in the Christian Education section. Please feel free to drop-in on any of these classes. All of the classes meet at 9:00 am on Sunday mornings and are located in the education building. To get to the education building, enter through the south doors and walk through the narthex. You will see a directory pointing you to the appropriate floor.
Fellowship
Each week, food and drinks are provided on the table in the narthex for informal fellowship before worship. Feel free to stop by and have a quick snack as you get to know the people of South Street.
Worship
Worship begins at 10:15 on Sunday mornings and ends at 11:15 (we try to be prompt). There are two doors on the south side of the building, feel free to enter through either door. One thing that might be different from other churches is that congregations affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) partake of Communion every Sunday. We welcome ALL people to participate in this meal, just as Jesus welcomed all to dine with him during his life. We believe that this meal is a radical act of God's hospitality and everyone is welcome. We pass around Communion trays, so if for any reason you do not wish to partake, simply pass the tray to the next person.
